Washington 38, UCLA 14

Rashaan Shehee ran for 72 yards and three touchdowns as the Huskies clinched a bowl berth by rolling over UCLA in Pasadena. UCLA played the majority of the game without its running star, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was injured on the Bruin's first play from scrimmage, 1:14 into the first quarter.

The victory had special meaning for Washington. Not only was this the first win for the Huskies against the Bruins in the Rose Bowl this decade, but the victory denied UCLA coach Terry Donohue his 98th Pac-10 victory, which would have broken Husky Coach Don James's record as the all-time winningest Pac-10 coach.

Damon Huard, who had an outstanding game, is now only two touchdown passes shy of breaking Sonny Sixkiller's school record of 35. Huard is also only 80 yards short of breaking Sixkiller's school record of 5,496 passing yards.

With the win, the Huskies guranteed themselves a bowl appearance, and set themselves up for a possible Cotton Bowl berth. The Cotton Bowl has a choice between the WAC winner and the PAC-10 runner-up (which Washington currently is). If the Cotton Bowl chooses the WAC winner, the Holiday Bowl in sunny San Diego will get the PAC-10 runner-up. If worst comes to worst, and Oregon beats Oregon State while Washington loses to Washington State, the Huskies are still guaranteed at least a Sun Bowl berth.
