What could have been the greatest Husky comeback of all time fell short as John Wales missed three field goals, one in the last minute of the game, and the Dawgs fell to Oregon 24-22. Oregon had taken a 24-0 lead at the half, sparked initially when they ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown. But Washington came back strong in the second half, shutting out Oregon and putting 22 points on the board. Unfortunately, the Huskies' kicking game couldn't come through to put the Dawgs over the top.
