BERKELEY, Calif. -- Rashaan Shehee ran for 123 yards and scored twice, as the 9th-ranked Washington Huskies shut down the California Golden Bears, 30-3.
The Huskies defeated California for the 15th straight time to improve to 4-1 and 2-0 in the Pac-10, while the Golden Bears fell to 2-3 and 0-2. After a scoreless first quarter, Brock Huard rifled a 43-yard TD pass to Cameron Cleeland to open the second stanza. Ignacio Brache booted a 36-yard field goal just before halftime to pull Cal within 7-3 at the break. The Huskies took control of the game with a 16-point third quarter after Cal's Deltha O'Neal fumbled the second-half kickoff.
O'Neal appeared the be on his way to returning the kick all the way when, without being hit, the ball popped out of his hands and Washington recovered.
Derrick Daniels fell on the loose ball and two plays later, Shehee ripped off a 19-yard run for a 14-3 lead.
He would go in from seven yards out just over five minutes later after the Huskies forced Cal to punt, but the extra point attempt failed to make it a 20-3 game.
Nick Lentz capped the third quarter with a 32-yard field goal for a 23-3 lead heading into the final quarter.
Huard capped the scoring with an eight-yard TD pass with 1:24 remaining. The Bears, who came in averaging 31.5 points a game, last won in this series with a 7-0 victory in Seattle in 1976.
The Huskies are 8-1 all-time at Memorial Stadium.
