Provo, UT (TSN) - Rashaan Shehee gained 171 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns to pace the fourth-ranked Washington Huskies to a 42-20 pounding of 19th-ranked BYU at Cougar Stadium. Washington quarterback Brock Huard completed 18-of-23 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns, as the Huskies improved to 3-1 versus BYU. This was the season opener for both schools.
Each offense produced a touchdown on their its first
possession. BYU took a short-lived 7-0 lead on a one-yard run by
Paul Shoemaker. The Huskies tied the contest on a one-yard dive
by Maurice Shaw.
Washington went to the locker room with a 21-7 advantage. Shehee ran in from 2 yards out with 2:43 remaining in the half. Two minutes later Huard combined with Fred Coleman on a 5-yard scoring pass play.
The Huskies built a 35-7 lead with two third-quarter touchdowns. Shaw found the end zone on a three-yard run only 1:31 after intermission. Huard and Shehee connected on a 23-yard scoring pass with 10:46 remaining in the quarter.
BYU came back with two fourth-quarter scores on Kevin Feterik touchdown passes. He hit Aaron Roderick on a 62-yard pass play for the first score, and connected with Ben Cahoon on a 34-yarder with 6:15 left in the contest.
Washington's final score came on another Huard-to-Coleman connection, this one from 27 yards out in the fourth quarter.
